Sammy, our soulful chum from Rwanda, wrote this beautiful (albeit slightly muddled) little testimonial for us. Sammy was with us for some time, and added to treehouse community unbounded quantities of love, spirit and creativity. It was pretty hard to pin Sammy down, in his way of thinking and way of working. Many times a day he would disappear on a new adventure, possibly to find flowers or get lost in the forest, or maybe something far more important. One day when he was really excited he built an entire oven out of mud just to cook potatoes for us. On full power mode he might peel as many as 6 full logs (see bottom image!) in a morning before getting distracted and running off to make a magic staff with a crystal or a nice stone that he’d found.
Just like with this message he has left us, there are many different ways to interpret Sammy. We miss him very much and keenly await his return for stories of his travels…
“Architecture is not neutral; it either helps community or hurts community, I didn’t get hurt but I believe in THC project. As I have put my soul straight into the khaya Senegalensis treehouse Project, I have been transformed and updated my life. I am glad to identify the potential to be part of building, living and meeting Filip and dignified design to improve delivery my outcomes creativity like Everything i want on is other side of Fear.
I remember first day I wake up and I asked Moj and Luke where are going? They told me work on Treehouse, then asked them if I could join them, Moj said let’s call Filip. One day I met him during the rain and he said yes with blessing. When i arrived I felt strong Energy with community and I appreciated his Parents and the forest which produced woods used for khaya project.
THC features in my inner soul. It’s not only construction – I learnt unexplainable and unbelievable work. Treehouse is Magic, every day was mystery. This blog I hope will be pedal to the great road of update for anyone who wants to be involved with THC and bridge the crossing because information is weapon to support the project of the 500 treehouses.”
